'57 brake light problem
The right brake light on our '57 works intermittently. I've checked all the wires in the trunk and they look excellent. I've also checked and replaced the connectors on the master cylinder and I still have the problem. Has anyone had a similar problem and any possible solutions? Thanks.

The turn signals and stop lights are inter-related via the turn signal switch. I suspect your turn signal is not can canceling fully. Try this experiment: check for a right brake light when you have the left turn signal activated. Then jiggle the turn signal handle when it's in the neutral position. Frequently you have to return the signal lever to the neutral position to have both brake lights.
Tom D. EDIT: What kind of master cylinder do you have with electrical connectors? T-Birds have their brake switch mounted on a distribution block located on the left frame rail. That's the only place that should have brake light switch wires. |

For the master cylinder question. I don't have the car near me so I can't verify. I thought I was working at the master cylinder. On the left side, near the manifold, but not mounted to the engine. I'll look again.
If I remember correctly, there were two wires coming from the area I was working. They were simple slip on connectors. |

I had the same problem with my '55, and after checking all the above as you did, I thought I would try checking the bulb. After inspecting the bulb, the filiment was separated a bit, but when everything was just right the light would operate, so I installed a new bulb and all is O.K. now! Almost too simple a fix.
