1955 window regulator problems

Hi all, I just joined here.
I recently had a guy install windows and regulators in my 55, did not turn out too well. I am trying to help him figure it out.
My car came to me with empty doors, had originally power windows but all the hardware was missing. I thought I'd go the economical way and have manual windows for now. Everything's installed now, the windows roll up and down with no binding but the RH one stops 2 inches below the roof rail. LH is better, only a half inch gap there. The upper stops are not stopping yet.
Further, the regulator assemblies seem a bit awkward to mount. When the lower bolts are tightened, there is about 2" between upper bolt holes and the inner door panel. Shop manual does not show any bracket there.
Any insights, anyone?

Thanks,
Tina

tak65tiina,

From what you describe, either you have the incorrect scissor assemblies, or they are incorrectly installed in the doors. Check Hill's Thunderbird Center catalogue online, index page T to Z, and go to page 88 to compare yours with the pictures.

Page 98 of the same section, shows the relative placement of the scissor assemblies in the doors. If yours are the correct units, maybe they are installed at the wrong angle, or (if its even possible) installed in the wrong door?

Hope this helps you out as most people won't have their doors apart in order to tell you the proper orientation, and in the rest of the cases (myself included) I did the job too many years ago to remember. Good Luck!

Thanks for your input!
I don't think the scissors can be installed in opposite side doors. They are definitelu t-bird, as are the regulators (in fact, purchased from Hill's).
Still can't figure it out. Could it be that I have the doors from 56 or 57 vintage and they are different from 55's? Or the doors are 55 but regulators are not?
Either way, it is too much for me. I better pay someone to sort it out.

Tina

The same parts for the 55 and the 56 are interchangeable, as are the doors. 57 window regulators list a different part number, and the doors are decidedly different as well.

Can you up load 3 or 4 pictures that might give us a clue?
