Hi Peter,

Here is a picture of a 55-7 Heat Riser Valve from one of the vendors.
Note the two little studs (actually a stud and the end of the valve) and spring on the left side. That is the Anit-Rattle spring.
Check if yours is missing or broken.
You may want to try a small spring there if yours is missing or broken.
Something light weight and not to strong. Maybe like a distributor spring and probably stainless steel due to the heat. Even one that is not stainless may work OK. So what if you need to replace it in a year or so. 1 dollar beats 100 dollars for a new Heat Riser Valve.

And yes, if it is opening and closing as it should, I would keep it.

If it's a driver and not a Concours car, just take it out. The TBirds parts guys have a spacer that fits in its place. The only "problem" is that it will take a minute longer to warm up.
