Reversing lights (Back-up lights in the USA)

Pulled the centre lense off my '66 today to see why the bach-up lights don't work and discovered three extra red 'dome' light-bulb covers over aforementioned bulbs.
My tail-lights/turn-signals work but none in the centre section work including back-up lights.(some bulbs looked pretty corroded etc).
Are the extra red lights meant to be on at the same time as the others or only when back-up lights are on?
I suspect they ARE meant to be on with the tail-lights as the bulbs are dual-filament i.e. brake and tail-lights, am I correct????

Any clues why back-up lights don't work are welcome (Where is the switch that operates them?)

I don't know about the center lighting, but...

As for the back-up lights, did you check the fuse? If the fuse is good, check other circuits on the same fuse to trace power...power and ground at the socket? At the disconnect?

I check fuses out of the panel, and check power flows through them while they are in the panel (voltmeter on output side to ground). I have had fuses check good (continuity) in hand, but don't carry current.

Back up lights are controlled by the neutral safety switch on the column under the dash.

Thanks for that tbirdjim, I guess I'll have to look at the switch or fuse, there is no current to the plug by the right-hand tail-lights.

Still a bit of fiddling to be done to get a good conact for the bulbs but I'll perervere!!!

I rebuild the light assemblies by getting cheap spare single and double contact sockets from the auto part store and cannibalizing the contacts/wires and inserting them into the existing light assembly and using a butt splice/shrink tube repair to hook up to the connector wires...

tbirdjim: the back up lights may be controlled by the neutral safety switch on the transmission !
