Custom Auto Sound

I just finished installing a Custom Auto Sound model 630 with a flash drive in my 1964 Thunderbird. I read so many bad reviews on this company that at first I hesitated but I am very glad I purchased it. It has a great sound and I used the Custom Auto Sound speaker with dual voice coils for the front speaker. I have not replaced the rear speaker yet but will shortly. The speaker was as difficult to install as the radio and both together wound up taking about 10 hours to install. The unit looks extremely nice and matches will with the surrounding chrome. It has plenty of volume and it picks up fm stations that I cannot get on my new Mazda. I am very shortly going to try out the flash drive with some old music from the 60's and 70's. I would recommend this radio to anyone wishing to replace the old radio in their Tbird.

Like you, I heard many horror stories about this product, so decided against it.
I have not gotten around to putting a system in my bird, but it appears the company has taken to heed all the complaints it received in the past, and has come up with a quality product.
I will give it some more time before choosing just what system I will be installing.
One thing I DO know is that I won't be using any of the stock speakers., but will replace the ones in the door panels.
The rear speakers will be placed just below the rear courtesy lights.
I have been told the rear speakers are too thick to put in that location, but I have a little over 2" to work with, and I know there are speakers out there that are thinner than 2".
The biggest problem I see regarding those rear speakers is, the thin grill I will need to put over them.
I don't want some massive grill that sticks out to far, plus, I will paint the grills to match the white in the interior so they will blend into the interior without bringing attention too them.

Okay, I'm an authorized dealer, mentioning this not to try and sell you stuff but to give you my comments.

The skinny on Custom Autosound: go back 5 years or more and the stereos stink. If you have an older type with the tiny buttons and the green display you can't half see, you've got one of the stinkers. I became a dealer because I liked the DVC speakers, but did not promote their stereos. However they HAVE improved greatly, and their USA-630 is a decent product; the USB port is cool, as you can upload music to any flash drive and play it into the stereo -- it works very well.

Now -- personally I have a 64 with front and rear speakers. The stereo is a conversion of the original radio. I have DVC's, but they are older design. Front is a 4x10; rear is a 5x7. The 6x9 is wonderful; the 4x10 is okay, the 5x7 stinks. Good news; after many discussions with people at CAM, I was told they are upgrading their speaker line. The new ones have been out for a couple years. Definitely improved, but I'm still not impressed with the 5x7. I hate 5x7's of ANY brand. I plan to someday replace the speakers; 4x10 in front, but remove the 5x7 and see if I can fit a 6x9 in there vertically and hold it in with a strap. If it works, I'll recommend this to customers. BTW, for better stereo, connect both left channels to the front DVC and both right channels to the rear DVC. If I can't fit the 6x9 in there, I'm going to try Undercover Stealth speakers under the seats. The car has power seats on both sides, but I'll try anyway. Again, share my experience after I've tried it myself.
