Gas spilling from fill tube

My '64 is spilling gas from the fill tube when I make hard right curves (exit ramps, etc). I replaced the cap and hadn't noticed it doing it again until this morning. Does anyone else experience this? Is it common?

I had same problem. Found it is good to not "top off" when at the pump.

As near as I can tell, my cap must not have been on tight.

yea mine does the same thing ,supprised someone does not come out with a baffle to keep this from happening.my float is off so its hard to tell just how much fuel is actually in there.been procrastinating dealing with the sending unit.

It sounds like you guys need to check the filler neck seal. It requires dropping the tank if I remember correctly. This has been discussed on another forum which is currently down so I cant verify. This would be a good time to check your sending unit inside the tank and get your gage working again.

I've read about this. Seems to me I recall the fix has something to do with the seal under the gas cap being too thin or worn out? I can't see how the o-ring at the filler pipe at the tank would have anything to do with gas coming out of the filler (where you put the gas nozzle in).

yea and i have the seals,but i was under the impression that it was coming out of the filler tube also,my guage works it only shows about 1/2 tank when filled up.at least that is what i remember i quit filling it up due to the gas coming out of it.

Funny some caps seem to leak and others don't. Mabey it's how hard the tangs pull down on the gasket???? The o ring that seals the neck to the tank can leak, But you don,t have to pull the tank to fix that you can pull the filler tbr from the top. Have to figure out where your leak is coming from.

If it was the o-ring at the top of the tank (where the filler tube goes in) then it would almost certainly start to leak as soon as you filled the tank to the top (not just around turns). Also please note that there was a tool that you inserted in the filler tube in place of the gas cap in order to twist/pull the stuck tube from the tank. This could distort the top sealing surface where the cap goes, too if that tube was ever pulled in the past 45 years. I know mine was a bear to break free when I took the tank out to get it cleaned and sealed.
