Outside Mirrors

I'm replacing my early 64 mirror with 2 later mirrors. I would like some mesurements on where the mounting holes should go on the doors or at least, where the front or rear point of the gaskets go. I'm assuming the holes follow along the same line as the original holes. I was at a show on Sunday and saw a red conv. with the later mirrors and noted their placement. The thing I found strange was that if you opened the quarter vent window too much, you would hit the mirrors. Is this the correct position of these mirrors?

Obviously, the vent window should NOT hit the mirror. Obvious to anyone else?
