390 Engine Swap

Hi, guys. This is my first post. I just found this site and I’m hoping to get help with my 63 T-Bird repair.

I recently got this car and the engine is tired. Very tired! I have an opportunity to get a ’73 390 engine with low miles that came out of a wrecker. My question is—will the ’73 engine go in the ’63 bird without major headaches? I can’t afford to do a rebuild on my current engine and I’m not concerned with numbers matching originality. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If the truck motor is a 2 barrel you may need to swap intakes for the linkage to be correct. other than that is should be a straight swap.

Thanks for the reply. It is a two barrel and I’ll change the intake, as you said. Wish me luck!
