Hi all,
Will a 57 Merc FEK 12127 C2 fit in a 312 block. I know the FEK is for a 368 block. Don't know the difference in the blocks.
Thanks,
LB

Hi Rusty,

I was intrigued by the number as I have an extra dizzy FEK 12127 A2 which is a stock 57 312 w/o tach drive.

I did some digging around on some of the other forums and it "appears" that your "C2" is from the 57 Turnpike Cruiser. Another person had one that was a tach drive with dual points. Any dual points in yours?

Someone found a "C" in an old parts book but not a "C2". The "C" in the parts book was w/o a tach drive so the thought was that the "C2" was with the drive. Generally the number on the end of the letter shows a later model of the same part. A bit curious that it would be a different part with the tach drive and still be a "C" and not a different ending letter.

For example the FEK 12127-B is for the 312 Bird - w/ tach drive.
There is also a 57 Merc FEK 12127-D with a tach drive in my Ford Parts Interchange guide.

From what was said on the other forum the dizzy will work if it has a 14 tooth 312 gear on it and not the 15 tooth 368 gear. How many teeth do you have?
The gear can be changed of course.

Hope that helps and did not add to the confusion.

Jim

Thanks for the response. Well the thing is you see, I don't really have it yet. It is a tach drive unit out of a Cruiser and I think the gear is already a 14 tooth, not sure of that though. I am bidding on it and the seller says it was in a '55 bird. I too have queried on another forum, maybe the same one you saw. I too saw that the "c" was for the Merc 368 Cruiser and some on line research pretty much got the same results as you. The unit is a single point setup and I got the top diameter which is a little over 3.75" which makes the same as a '57 bird unit. If I get it I will just have to get a cap and be ready to go. I'm putting it in a '56 bird mostly to do away with the teapot carb. I have all the rest of the setup, '57 manifold, '57 carb etc. I will hang on to the '56 stuff in case I sell the car later and someone wants original items. Don't know why though the '57 stuff is so much better in my opinion.

Thanks,
Rusty1
