what year rear with disks?

i know 89 to 97 tbirds came with either a 7.5 or 8.8 rear, what years came with rear disk brakes too? did they only come on the 8.8? what about with traction loc?

im trying to locate a 7.5 rear to adapt into my merkur xr4ti. i just figure i can get double/triple my money's worth if i can find a rear thats a 7.5, traction loc, and disk brake.

if you have what im looking for email me: pyropete125@nameplanet.com

thanks all for the info.

All T-birds came with the 7.5 rearend except the Supercoupes which all them from 89 to 95 came with the 8.8's.

89 to 95 Supercoupes, all came with 4 wheel disc brakes and only the 96 & 97 LX's have them as well.

Not sure on the traction-loc though... I'm pretty sure that the 89 to 93 SC's had traction-loc, but not sure on the 94 to 95 SC's. I really don't think that was a option for the LX's, but could be wrong.

Gee, that's funny. My 1995 LX has 4-wheel disc with ABS.
So did the 94 LX's.............

Sorry-but a lot of T-birds for the MN-12 years came with the 8.8.

Generally the NA V6 Birds came with the 7.5-the 5.0L & 4.6L V8 Birds were equipped with the 8.8. Traction-Locs wre VERY common with the V8 Birds.

89-97 Birds could be ordered with 4-wheel discs. The 91-92 Sports came with 8.8 Trac-locs and 4-wheel discs standard.

Well... I then stand corrected! Thanks for replying and telling me.

I guess I should have been more specific...

What about the 89 to 92's.. I thought all them were V6's, didn't think they made V8's in them years, not sure on the 93 model year. But when I was replying to the thread there I had my mine on the V6's only. I didn't think about the later models with the V8's having 8.8's and traction-loc. :)

Plus since he was going to do a swap there, I was thinking that if he was going to the junk yard... he most likely would not find a Base model or LX bird or cougar with those options, So that is why I mentioned about the supercoupes... which by the way are hard to find as well in the junk yards. There are lots of MN12 birds and cougars in the yards from the years 89 to 93.

thanks guys... the local yard is getting in a 92 v8 and hopefully it will be a disk brake 7.5...

ok one more question what is the measurment between the 6 bolt flanges without the cv joints installed? from the flange across the back and to the other flange. are the 8.8 and 7.5 the same? if they are ill try to use the stronger 8.8.

thanks
pete

In 91-92 Ford brought in the Sport model-basically an SC with the 5.0L.

93 brought out the 5.0L HO-the motor in these cars is different in one respect from the 5.0L in the 91-92. The engineers replaced the cam with the cam from the 93 Cobra-here is the info I found on this particular modification for 1993 Thunderbirds:

>>The information was obtained by talking with one of the engineers who now works at Ford Racing Performance Parts, and also from the Mustang 5.0 Technical Reference & Performance Handbook. The first portion is from page 117:

"Although these alterations combined to reduce the horsepower slightly compared to the GT-40 inlet system and heads used with the H.O. cam, they also improved bottom-end torque, produced a smooth, stable idle, and reduced hydrocarbon emissions. The standard Cobra cam, with it's less aggressive(than the H.O. cam's) profile, was also phased into production in the 1993 Thunderbird/Cougar's 200-horsepower 5-liter V8 to improve idle and emissions..."

Here are the roller cam specifications for the 1991-92 5.0L HO, and the 1993 5.0L HO-you can find this information on page 228.

91-92

Part Number F1ZE-6250-AA
Lift int/exh .278/.278
Duration .276/.266
Lobe Center 116/115

93

Part Number F3ZE-6250-CA

Lift .282/.282
Duration .270/.270
Lobe Center 115/121.5

The 6-bolt flange SHOULD be the same-but I would check to make sure.

One correction here on me-

Looking at my Thunderbird bible-it says that the Sport was only offered for 1992.

I recommend the book "T-Bird 45 Years of Thunder" for anyone researching these cars.
