I have worked on newer cars that have some heat shielding there so it is probably not a bad thing to try. I have heard many complaints about hot floors / carpets making it uncomfortably warm inside the car. I myself have just started a frame off on my 1955 Thunderbird. I plan to put the heat / sound barrier inside the car and use the heat shields for the mufflers.
