HELP ME I WANT TO DRIVE MY TBIRD

I am a new member I have an 87 5.0 LX stang and I was looking for a daily driver and my friend gave me a ride in his 88 T/C tbird. I was so impressed that in one week I got my self an 87 T/C tbird and found out why people fall in love with this cars. It has a really straight body and paint the only problem was that it had a blown turbo so I got it for $40,0 I put the new (stock) turbo in and the turbo is good but here is where im confused. It idles really bad and smokes badly in black and when you rev it the engine, it sputters to about 4 grand gets stuck at 4 grand and cant go any higher. I have done a full tune up and am planning on checking the timing tonight. I really could use some ideas on what you guys think it could be because im so itching to drive it.

Could be an air leak at one of the intercooler connections or possibly a bad feul regulator. Do you have a feul pressure gauge? Also, check the rubber hose going to the FPR, they get old and collapse.

Could be a million things - have you checked fuel pressure? Injectors are notorious for clogging, plus its always a good idea to have them machined and flow tested.

Smoke - head gasket? Oil in turbo? TCs seem to do this anyway upon firing up - mine doesn't though.

Idle could be TPS or even 02 sensor being bad...

good luck

Pull Codes from the computer and let us know back - then we can get closer, other wise we're just guessing.

Ghettobird, Says here that u done a tune-up! These birds run best(if at all) on Ford plugwires, cap, rotor and plugs. There has been several people that has tried different plug wires but as a rule go back to Motocraft. This will probably solve 90% of your problems. The hoses on the turbo and intercooler can very easly be folded up when putting them back on(I spray a little wd-40 on mine)Double check this first! If trouble continues pull up the codes. If this is sucking air it will give several bad codes from a lean condition, and u will be chasing bad info. Hope this helps! Denny
