T-Birds equipped with Ford radios?

I've got a customer who sent me a 55 T-Bird radio for repair/rebuild. Turns out this radio is from a 54 Ford -- model 4SF765. Through conversation I happened to mention this, and he got irate and swore this was the factory radio for his car! He did tell me that the car was made in February, 1955.

After nearly 60 years, a lot happens to these cars. This is not the first 54 Ford radio I've seen -- usually it's the 6-tube model with 5 ivory of black pushbuttons but in this case it'a the 8-tube. They're interchangeable, and in the dash this radio looks correct. Of course the correct radio is 5MFS. My suspicion is if he owned the car since new, possibly the Ford dealer swapped or installed this radio for some reason.

Does anyone know of a FACTORY EQUIPPED T-Bird with a 54 Ford radio? I'm getting curious.

Gary,
Amos Minter of Dallas/Fortworth specializes in restoration and sales of 55 through 57 TBirds exclusively. His inventory always has about 30 on hand at any one time. If anyone would know for sure, his people would. He's easy to find online, just google Amos Minter. A phone call should get your answer pretty quickly.
