accelerator pump

I installed a Holley four barrel on my 1957 tbird about a year ago. The acelerator pump has failed twice now. First time I cleaned it and reassembled. Worked for a while. Second time I replaced the diaphram because the original looked hard and cracked. I am wondering if the premimun fuel with alcohol is attaching the diaphram. I also have the mushroom type check valve (red) iinstead of the ball chech. Has anyone had any of the same type problem and can suggest a solution.
