Dipstick Replacement
The dipstick on my 55 Bird came off last week. I ordered a new one from CASCO. I tried to install it yesterday, but it doesn't go all the way into the hole on the block. I tried the old one, and that one only goes in a bit.
Two questions: how do I install this thing correctly, and what holds it in place? Thanks |

I assume you mean the tube, not the dipstick itself.
A friend also bought one of CASCOs tubes and it would not fit. Angles were wrong and the bottom was wrong. They were told of the problem about a year ago (the top guy there). Try to find a good used one. Tell CASCO - they have a very good return policy. The tube is held in place by a bracket off the tube that goes on one of the exhaust manifold bolts. |

fomaroj,
Hill's Thunderbird Center (Google search it online) not only sells that tube (advertised as an exact duplicate) but the have a number of old Tbirds in stock that they may scavenge an original from for you. Maybe worth a call. |
