57 Hood Latch Finish

Can any one tell me what finish they are using on a 57 hood latch mechanism? It seems to be unfinished, but do folks paint them? If so, what color? Thanks.

The hood release mechanism is cadium/zinc finished. These are the brackets on the firewall and the rod between them.

How do folks clean them up during restoration?

Use a good degreaser on it - I like the purple stuff (Super Clean). To do it right, you should take it off to clean to get all the nooks and crannies. An old toothbrush works good.

My bird is not a show car, so I painted mine - used Cast Blast paint. If there are spots you couldn't get off, you might want to try a scouring pad (try in a spot that can't be seen first.)

Hood Latch disassembly

I’m trying to take my hood latch apart for cleaning and refurbishing. There are pins that go through the springs (part no. 16700-BR). They are in two pieces, the pin itself and a pressed on cap to hold the assembly in place.

Are these pins removable and reusable? If so, how is this accomplished?

Thanks
