I'm not anywhere near working my dash yet but there is a combination TACH-VAC gauge offered by CASCO. I should think you could also find a tach at someplace like Summit that you could modify to fit nicely in the bird. If you want to maintain the correct needle color you can buy the paint from Hill's ($3.00 P/N 19000-G)

Yea, I've looked at the one from Casco but don't like the look of it, I want something that more resembles the stock tach. There are some cheap Sun tach's on ebay and am thinking of getting one to try to modify. Thanks for the reply.

I Have Installed Electronic Tach In My 55 Bird

YES...ME....MY DIST. 'BROKE IN HALF' WHEN I TRIED TO REPLACE THE LEAKING OIL SEAL IN THE BOTTOM HOUSEING)..( THE HOUSING WAS CRACKED FOR ? 40+ YEARS/ )....SO, WITH REPLACEMENTS (NOW I DON'T HAVE A 'REBUILDABLE CORE' ) GOING TO BE AROUND A $1000..I DID NOT HAVE A CHOICE--I HAD TO GO WITH A M.S.D. DIST. (WITH VACUUM ADVANCE..BUT NO MECH. TACH DRIVE ) AROUND $650 (WITH SPECIAL MATCHING COIL)..A 427 FE DIST. FITS RIGHT IN..SO NOW I MUST GO WITH A ELECTRONIC TACH. WENT TO SUMMIT CATALOG.....BOUGHT A SUN-PRO 2/ 5/8 O.D. TACK--FIT IN THE MECH. TACK HOLE PERFECTLY--WIRED UP -NO PROBLEM - HAS RED POINTER- LOOKS KINDA FACTORY..IF YOU WANT PHOTOS AND DOLLAR AMOUNTS I CAN SEND E-MAILS..IT WAS ABOUT $50 FOR THE TACH...INSTALL WAS EASY..edmund.mlynek@sbcglobal.net 1-706-376-7514 (GEORGIA) BYE GOOD LUCK WITH THIS

I converted my ‘57 tach from mechanical to electronic. Look up D&M Restoration in Greenville, SC. They did a great job on all my gauges. Tach connects by wiire to the coil now.
