This is how I have done it. You will need the bottom bolted in the car. And you will need a helper.
There is a hole on the bottom part and a rod in the "bootie" part of the backrest. The rod goes into the hole. Attach one side. On the other, take a leather belt or something similar and locate it above the rod on the other side. One person pulls on the strap spreading the back, the other should guide the rod onto the hole.
