Cigar lighter function

are you expected to hold the lighter in until it heats? Or should it retain it to heat, and then pop out when hot? Silly question since I don't smoke, but I would like to plug in an adapter for a phone charger.
thanks,
rick

It should stay depressed by itself until it's heated up, then pop out. If the lighter itself isn't functioning, it shouldn't interfere with use of the socket as a voltage source.

FYI I purchased an exact replica of the rusted out lighter socket for my '64 at an O'Reilleys, on the rack next to other electrical do-dads. Apparently it was a common item for many different cars for many years.

Thank you so much. Mini-problem solved.
Best regards, Rick
