I would measure the width that would fit, and together with the height off the floor, seat length and back height, visit your local "you pick it" junkyard and find a set that works. Most newer cars will have a headrest that you can either re-use or remove and upholster over. The tracks won't match but it's easy enough to fabricate adapter plates.
After you do all that, you might find it easier to repair the old bench. The original will probably maintain more value to the car as well. |

Perfectly practical advice, although lazy me was thinking someone might say 'The seats off a 1974 Yardley-Pew Apache fit perfectly and look great!' I will do exactly as you suggest. And yes, the original seat will go into safe storage for any future owner. I am only doing this for my own comfort; otherwise the car is as near bone stock as a driver can be. (And if anyone has those Yardley-Pew seats please let me know.) Thanks, Rick

I've seen quite a few 55-57 T birds, with 65-68 Mustang buckets. I found a mint 65 Mustang bench seat for my 56. I have not tried to install it yet. It is two inches narrower than the original seat. It looks like buckets, when the armrest is down.
