ok i had ebverything done tranny rebuildnew gasketzs in engine, new water pump, all new hoses, blew out the radiator, new thermostat. I drove it for 1 1/2 hours then pulled over and my coolant was gushinginto my overflow tank. It was so hot that it melted the plastic cap. Only thing that is left is redoing thwe heater core. Any advice?

Sorry to hear your overheating persists. Did you flush out the block? You mentioned just flusing the radiator. Why did you rebuild the Transmission? Are the Transmission coolant lines touching the engine block picking up excess heat and sending the heat to the radiator ? Have you checked for adequate oil flow at the rocker arms? Is the engine timing correct? Best to find a Grey-haired mechanic who has seen all the causes of overheating in his liftime and fix the cause(s) of your overheating. P.S. Replacing the heater core will not correct the cause of the overheating. I will simply remove some of the coolant heat if you turn it on full blast. OK in the winter but horrible in the Summer!

Ok. I did flush the block. I had the tranny rebuilt because the seals were shot and it would leak like crazy. Where are the rocker arms you spoke about for oil flow?

You are on the wrong track looking at tranny lines(you have an external cooler) and rocker arms, oil flow etc. These 64-66 Birds have ample radiator to handle most any condition if the passages are open and the system is clean. I have pulled a 20 ft. boat over the mts. of Northern Ca. and Southern Or. in the summer with the ac on and still did not over heat. Ihave had the radiator cleaned once when a header sprung a leak.
You might ck. to see if you are getting bubbles in the cooling water which would indicate head gasket problems. Good luck, Joe

Head gasket sounds like a real possibility and probability at this point with history of multiple boil overs. Bubbles in radiator, and/or white exhaust smoke (steam) lead to a compression check of all cylinders .

how would i do a compression check of all cylinders?

You can buy a compression test gauge for something like $25 to $30. A shop would probably charge you at least an hour labor at the going rate. I would advise you to take it to the shop as you have to do it properly to get an accurate reading.

YOU HAVEN'T SAID WHAT YOUR TEMP GAUGE READS WHEN "OLD FAITHFUL" GOES OFF.FULL HOT I PRESUME.I AGREE IT'S PROBABLY THE HEAD GASKET OR IT MAY BE THE HEAT RISER STUCK IN THE CLOSED POSITION,HOLDING ALL EXHAUST HEAT INSIDE ON THAT SIDE OF THE ENGINE.GOOD LUCK,CANNEDBAND

also while you check the exhaust manifold heat-riser valve(located in a joint between the left-side exhaust man. & the ex. pipe)you may wanna check the fan clutch-if equipped.CANNEDBAND
