To do this you need a meter. I have a Sunpro multimeter that cks dwell, volts, amps and ohms. If you do a lot of engine tuning this is a handy tool

If you install the Pertronix kit (about $75) dwell is no longer a factor as you eliminate the condensor and points. Once you set the gap when you install the kit you are home free.
The insructions come with the kit.

Igniter

Grg, most speed shops have the igniter but if you have a problem getting one the Bird Nest in Portland, Or. has them in stock.

Greg, if you talk to the Bird Nest people, ask them about a good rebuilt Ford 4 barrel. I have had one on my 66 since it was new and they are easy to work on and do a good job.

i have installed a pertronix ignitor , purchased from Retro rockets which i think is located in conneticut made a lot of difference especially cold starting which is quite a problem over in england round about december-february time, well worth the £50 ($75)
