57 E Bird OD Engagement Failure

I've owned this Bird since late June of 2010. It's a very well restored (actually over-restored) car and the previous owner had the car for 40+ years. I'm proud to be the next caretaker of this beautiful car. My overdrive transmission section has been gradually failing to engage. Thought it was just a warm up issue because usually, once driven a mile or so, it would engage with no problem. It has taken progressively longer to get the OD component to engage over the past few months. On Monday, the car would not engage into OD at all. I have the FORD manual and went through the electrical check and listened for the click to see if the solenoid was bad, and well, who can hear over the starter solenoid when the ignition is turned on? Anyway, can someone who has experience in trouble shooting the OD system maybe give me some direction and perhaps in a less technical way over the manual? Also, I’m not sure I have seen the gear oil opening for the OD section or does this section get lubrication from the main gear box?
Thank you for reading and your help/direction.

Dan K.

I see an overdrive solenoid listed on Ebay (220719733401). Maybe it's the part number you need; if you need an OD solenoid.

Just a FYI on this issue:

Cleaned all the electrical connections and replaced one connection. Used di-electric grease on all the connections and the OD system works perfiect.
